Bernie Sanders: Popular Presidential Nominee

Aspiring presidential candidate, Bernie Sanders promised to straighten up the criminal justice system as a top priority during his presidential tenure, in a busy campaign schedule this Wednesday.

According to him, reforming the criminal justice system would be atop his agenda as an American president. As for him, the American prison system was a huge ‘international mortification’ citing the burgeoning rate of incarceration in America unparalleled to any other country. He hoped to alleviate this situation.

Bernie’s Agenda

Bernie Sanders divulged his agenda to deal with the following issues at hand:

  • Profiteering prisons
  • Take off marijuana from control substances list
  • Remove the death penalty
  • Revoke mandatory sentencing

As per Bernie, a lot of lives have been disrupted due to police records, affecting jointly blacks and whites. In his view, the burgeoning rate of incarceration of black population and criminality of school-age black American kids is tragic. He stated that he categorically no longer required support of Rham Emanuel for presidency.

Police reforms

His reforms as a president include increased investment into education and jobs for the young generation. In his perspective, it would be far more inexpensive and productive to send a child to University of Illinois as opposed to jail. Furthermore, he emphasized an accountable and demilitarized police force with more vested diversity. He visualized the police force to act as component of the community as opposed to an occupying force. Although, police work is largely tough, stressful and dangerous, they should be held accountable for their actions nevertheless.

Bernie Sanders inherently directed his case-point towards the tragic incidents of Laquan McDonald and Rekia Boyd, where police opened fire at will due to racial bias. He mentioned Sandra Bland, who was incarcerated for arguing with a police officer over a lane change. He even met the girl’s mother in Illinois. He expressed concerns largely about educated African Americans, anxious about police confrontations and its consequent repercussions.

Priority list

Bernie Sanders promised to prevent deportations of minorities and work tirelessly to keep the families united. He emphasized to shut the door on racism and conclude the racism diatribe of Donald Trump, referring to his vile remarks on Mexican citizens. He further opposed Donald Trump and his attempts to sweep the elections using the racial card.

Sanders felt that majority of the population was nauseated with ‘millionaire’ and ‘billionaire’ gentry purchasing elections. The grand vision of a political revolution is to envisage a collective population of middle-class and low-income people as a singular group rather than dividing them.

Ending ties with Rahm Emanuel

While mentioning the issue of Mayor Rahm Emanuel, he categorically stated that he no longer required his services since he was a close associate Hillary Clinton, his presidential opponent.

His presidential speech in Chicago was a relatively smaller gathering as opposed to huge campaign rallies earlier. High-profile supporters of Bernie included Mike Render, Jim Hightower, Cornel West and Ben Cohen.

Californian Gun Laws: Cause of Inaction

In present American climate, these cases of mass shootings have become repetitive. The firepower unleashed raised considerable eyebrows in California, due to strict enforcement of gun laws. Majority of high-powered rifles are banned as per California’s Assault Weapons Control Act of 1989 and another 2004 law. Another law was promulgated in 2000, as per which high-capacity magazines were banned for sale. Four such banned magazines were found at the San Bernardino incident, subsequent to the attack. Furthermore, the police stated that the couple was equipped with 1,600 additional rounds of bullets stocked in their SUV vehicle.

Californian State Law Loophole

California State may ban the purchase and possession of such high-powered rifles; however, these assault rifles were fitted with a button mechanism for unleashing ammunition rounds, allowing its legitimacy in Californian state. This exception to the Californian state law is known as ‘bullet button loophole’. Gun manufacturers utilize this loophole for manufacturing and selling high-powered assault rifles in state of California. The rifles used for unleashing carnage on unarmed civilians were legally acquired in state of California. The handguns were purchased by Farook, while another associate purchased the rifles.

Cross border purchase vs. modified weapons

At San Bernardino shooting incident, the rifles were upgraded illegally as per an ATF spokeswoman. The DPMS A-15 used by Tashfeen Malik was upgraded to accommodate extra 30-rounds of ammunition, while the Smith & Wesson M&P15 used by Farook was upgraded to fire as an automatic weapon.

Alternatively, due to ban on high-powered assault rifles and magazines in the state, the shooters could have purchased their rifles from another state as opposed to illegally modifying them. In neighboring states, high-capacity magazines, military-grade assault rifles and semi-automatic weapons are available under pro-gun laws. As a result, state gun laws vary from one state to another.

According to an official from Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, California is an interconnected state. As a result, people enter the state from neighboring states. Majority of the guns used for committing acts of violence in Californian state is due to transportation of those weapons from states having pro-gun laws.

Obama Stepping in

President Obama came out in public to promise implementation of gun-control laws in an exorbitantly poisoned debate held on national television.

In an excessively polarized politics, president Obama emphasized his stringent focus on implementing gun-control laws such as, conducting background check on sales of arms. More so, he held Congress responsible for backing out for his call on amplifying efforts to fund in his endeavors. He unequivocally declared Congress as the guilty party with its inaction on gun control laws.

Presidential Candidates’ Opposition to LGBTQ

The current political campaigns are dominated by dissenting rhetoric and anti-LGBTQ speeches, primarily intended at capitalizing on vote bank and people’s fear, while fuelling discriminatory attitude and animosity.

First and foremost, Donald Trump suggested barring Muslims from entering American soil. As per Ted Cruz, the promulgation of LGBTQ rights was single-handedly the most ‘darkest times in human history’. More so, Rand Paul deemed Paycheck Fairness Act analogous to Soviet Union laws. The campaign candidates clearly seemed to be attempting to hit the chord with their respective audiences using ‘criticism card’ to accumulate maximum votes.

As per polls, the majority of the American population is in favor of LGBTQ rights and marriage equality, citing equal rights for all groups. However, many presidential candidates are still hung up over anti-LGBTQ positions.

Listed below are the most inappropriate remarks regarding LGBTQ by candidates:

  1. Ted Cruz: As transgender women were being slaughtered, he declared anti-abortion analogous to American terrorist responsible for slaughtering civilians inside Planned Parenthood as a ‘transgendered leftist’.
  2. Ben Carson: He proposed that transgender people should be allotted separate bathrooms since it’s not fair to make everyone uncomfortable.

  • Nike Huckabee: He proposed constitutional amendment for barring same gender marriage with anti-marriage activist Kim Davis.

  1. Chris Christie: He perceived participation of transgender children in facilities and programs as per their gender to be extremely puzzling for them.

  1. Rick Santorum, Carly Fiornina, Ben Carson, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee recently endorsed a pledge known as First Amendment Defense Act (FADA) within 4-months of their holding office. This legislation document will promulgate discrimination into constitutional law, barring federal government from action when public businesses discriminate on the basis of marriage conventions, stating ‘marriage is essentially union of a man and woman’.

Unfortunately, it’s just the tip of the iceberg regarding anti-LGBTQ campaigns.

At present, thirty-two states are devoid of non-discrimination protection in terms of accommodation, employment and housing. In 2015 alone, the community confronted 100 anti-LGBTQ legislations all over American landscape. The right-wing successfully revoked Equal Rights Ordinance of Houston using anti-transgender scare schemes. In case of California, anti-transgender bill was placed on the ballot.

As these campaigns against anti-LGBTQ, anti-immigrant and transgender rights gains momentum, they create a culture of hate and violence emerges, flourishing speedily throughout America. As a resolution of 2016, efforts need to be doubled on the grounds of relationship development, public education and strategic interventions to procreate a culture of tolerance and acceptance with those holding a slightly diverse view of the world.

Donald Trump vs. ISIS

The choice of words used by Donald Trump is extremely unhealthy and disturbing. As it is, there are various similarities between ISIS and Donald Trump in terms of communication language. Listed below are 4-communication methods, which categorically bridge the gap between ISIS and Donald Trump.

The Element of Fear

ISIS openly declares war against the religious sects and western society by means of murder and terror. Apart from grotesque murders, ISIS employs web resources for a barrage of constant threats against humanity including videos, newsletters and websites.

Donald Trump on the other hand predicts that America is destined to doom, unless a societal change is undertaken. His tools to swerve listeners include ongoing diatribes on 9/11, eventual conclusion of American dream, decrement of jobs and opposing the influx of immigrants. As per Donald Trump, it’s time to deport unproductive members of the society to their respective countries. In order to prevent their entry, he proposes constructing a wall and bombing them constantly.

Authoring a ‘them’

ISIS has created a frontier against westerners, depicting them as ‘outcasts’ in their view. For them, all non-Muslims are worth killing as preordained by Islam. For ISIS, gray areas are highly intolerable and people with complex beliefs are deemed as beyond the fold of Islam.

In case of Donald Trump, Muslims, Mexicans, Chinese and other minorities disagreeing with his views, are the actual problem at hand. These very races according to him, should be annihilated, deported and shut out from America, if necessary should be murdered. More so, he even revived the racial segregation card, portraying blacks as a hateful segment of population. Soon enough, he regressed and appreciated the colored population. Even though, he retracted his previous statements, they reek of hatred against blacks on the whole. In essence, both ISIS and Donald Trump are marginalizing racially.

Hateful Propaganda

ISIS commits atrocities using Islam as a justification tool. Moreover, they wage the ‘holy war’ in an attempt to equalize the western conspiracies against Muslims. Inflammatory statements are issued without any substantial proof, portraying sheer intolerance and animosity. Furthermore, there is no room for negotiations or compromise with ISIS.

Donald Trump keeps a Christian pastor alongside for justifying his ludicrous assertions. On the contrary, Christian theology negates all assertions made by Donald Trump. Most of his statements are in plain contradiction with injunctions of Christianity. More so, he uses conspiratorial language to push his agenda to his audience. Lastly, he declared global warming as a Chinese ploy to stagnate American industries.

Violence against unarmed civilians

In perspective of ISIS, all infidels deserve death as preordained in Islam. The strength of ISIS lies in targeting civilian areas, consisting of unarmed population.

During his speech when an attendant voiced rights for black race, Donald Trump opined the attendant to be arrested for such a remark. Furthermore, he even proposed to exterminate the families of terrorists as a collective strategy to wipe out the terrorists. An individual advocating mass murder of minorities should be disqualified from the presidential campaign.

Using the racial strategy to sweep the presidential campaign is a slick move by Donald Trump. In hindsight, using similar rhetoric as those of ISIS’s and ideals asserted by them will be counter-productive in establishing an orderly society. Donald Trump is merely using blame-game, violence, fear, and segregation card to sweep the presidential race.

A society is a function of compassion, awareness and productive endeavors. While referring to Muslims, he proposed to deport them to their native homeland, as it’s the last resort. For all intents and purposes, America invites all races with equal opportunities, independent of professional bias and personal prejudice.
